Advantages and Disadvantages of Colored Contact Lenses

Leonardo da Vinci is accredited with propounding the idea of developing the contact lenses, but it was the Czech chemist Otto Wichterle and Drahoslav Lim, his assistant. Since the introduction of the contact lenses, it has started receiving wide acceptance worldwide. Now the number of contact lenses users is approximately 125 million worldwide, with the most number of users in the United States. The modern soft contact lenses come with a faint blue tint, so as to easily differentiate them while immersed in the cleaning and storage solution. Some lenses are purposely colored so as to alter the appearance of the eye. The lenses that are used to change the appearance of the eye is called colored contacts or colored contact lenses. So a wide variety of color contacts are available in the market that can alter the appearance of the eye. The colored contacts are used as a means of altering the appearance of the eye rather that dealing with vision related problems. This is gaining wide acceptance among all sorts of people in the society irrespective of their needs.

Now coming to the advantages, it is most beneficial to people who are not cautious with their glasses or spectacles. People choose to wear contact lenses owing to their appearance and practicality. Compare to the spectacles it is gaining wide acceptance due to its resistance against any weather conditions. Since the contact lenses are fitted directly into the cornea of the eye, it is less affected by the changes in the climate especially the wet weather. Not only the contact lenses improves you eyes site but also if it is a colored contact it will surely enhance the appearance of your eye and will make you look attractive.

Apart from all this advantages there are some disadvantages also, for the majority contact lenses wearers that has not been much serious health problems but for some exceptions the excessive wear of the contact lenses, especially overnight wear has created some serious problem to the eyelid, the conjunctiva, layers of the cornea and even the tear film that protects the outer surface of the eye.
